EDUCATOR
Oboist · Composer · Bay Area
In 2019, I joined the faculty of University of the Pacific (Stockton, CA) as Assistant Professor of Practice in Oboe. In 2022, I began also serving there as Program Director of Chamber Music. I have previously taught at UC Santa Cruz, Davis, and Berkeley.
I am available as a clinician, offering a variety of customizable services for students at high school and college level including:
Contemporary performance practice lecture/demonstrations, for oboists and/or composers
Chamber music coachings
Oboe master classes, on contemporary and/or Common Practice Period repertoire
Improvisation workshops, for any instrumentation
Talks on Practical Aspects of a Musical Career, covering topics including the nonprofit model, grant-writing, small ensemble self-management, and collaboration strategies
If you are interested in pursuing private lessons – as an oboist, or as an aspiring improviser on any instrument – know that I am always happy to consider taking on new students. I teach out of my North Oakland home studio, close to the Ashby BART station. Long distance lessons are also viable via Zoom.
While I try to make lesson days and times as consistent as possible, my touring and freelancing activities can make scheduling rather erratic – flexibility and understanding will be implied.
My rates are $80/hour. ($60/half hour, or $70/45-minute lessons may prove more appropriate at first for beginners and young players.) If financial pressures are a concern, please don’t hesitate to contact me all the same – I’m always willing to discuss non-monetary bartering possibilities.
